The Best Marin County Parks
August 30, 2013
You keep reading how great Marin County and its homes for sale are and, by now, you probably have a good idea of what your favorites Marin County places to live would be, but do you really know about its casual outdoor areas? Of course Marin is renowned in the Bay Area, California and the United States at large for its wonderful hikes through the redwood forests, and above the rolling fog of Bolinas Ridge, but those usually require to drive far enough from home to get to. Where do you go for your casual Sunday outdoor stroll with your children and dog?
Marin County has a lot to offer when it comes to outdoors. Home to the Marin headlands, it offers some of the best views of the entire Golden Gate National Recreation Area like the Marin Headlands. But Marin also offers a great variety of casual parks in urban areas.
Here are a few parks that might want to try next weekend:
McInnis Park - Located at 310 Smith Ranch Road in San Rafael, McInnis is a 450 acre park with multiple areas for outdoor sports such as skating (it includes a skate park),soccer, tennis, and much more. It is complete with restrooms, and makes for a great picnic area. The park is dog friendly (on leash),and also offers activities like mini golf, a clubhouse, a restaurant, etc. It is a great place from some father and son Sunday baseball!
Lagoon Park - Also located in San Rafael, Lagoon Park offers a very unique man-made lagoon. Looking out to the civic center of the city of San Rafael, it is the perfect place for improvised picnics in the middle of the city or some weekend recreations and friendly gathering. Picnic tables are available for everyone in the park.
Point Reyes Playground - Located a little further out from the cities in downtown Point Reyes Station, the Point Reyes playground is a very special place with great accessibility for West Marin residents. It offers a great playground for children, picnic tables, restrooms, and more. With swings, a sand play area, structures to climb, it is the perfect weekend getaway for kids under 10 years old. Dogs are also allowed (leashed) outside of the playground area.
Now get out there and enjoy the rest of the Summer!
